It was reported that Liverpool spent over £175M on their new transfers which made them the nearest challengers to Manchester City for the Premier League title this season, a verdict which came from the legendary commentator of Sky Sports, Martin Tyler.
The bookies considered them as second favourites, behind City, who was at 19 points ahead of the last term. Therefore, he believes that this is a good chance for Liverpool to earn the title after 28 years of waiting.
Tyler also mentioned that competitors of the top spots, including Arsenal and Chelsea, who both have new managers, are “works in progress”.
“They will be the team to beat, that’s for sure,” Tyler said of City on Sky Sports News.
“Probably Liverpool is in the best shape you would think (to challenge them) after their excellent transfer dealings.
“The way that they handled the matches against Manchester City last season, obviously the first one didn’t go too well when Mane got sent off, but after that, they did extremely well, better than anybody else.
“So you would think they are going to be their main rivals.
“It’s still extraordinary to me that Liverpool hasn’t won the league since 1990.
“The others are all works in progress. I’m sure you’ve done a Jose Mourinho story today, everybody seems to be doing it.
“Spurs haven’t signed anybody, Arsenal are under new management, Chelsea under new management.”
Liverpool host West Ham this Sunday, which also starts their Premier League campaign.
